The Academy Theatre (fomerly The Amulet and The Centre prior to that) has been a long underused building in Shepton Mallet for which the future was uncertain.
BAPA took the lease to The Academy with a view to making it the same success that their venture at The Tobacco Factory in Bristol has been.
Wright Associates looked at the client brief to reduce the impact of the present monolithic mass of the building, improve the external aesthetics, create a new entrance and provide on-site living accommodation for students.
The result of this is the project that you can see by clicking on the attached DWF file above.
The application met with approval at the Mendip District Council Board on the evening 24 January 2007 where it was voted unanimously for the project to go ahead.
This important building is significant in the regeneration of Shepton Mallet and all involved hope that this project leads to a success for both BAPA and Shepton Mallet.
