To enable us to prepare designs we need to have accurate survey information about your property and land. We undertake measured surveys both for projects we are to work on and for clients who just require measured surveys. We adopt some of the latest equipment on the market both in terms of hardware and software enabling us to take laser measurements and plot them straight to CAD on site so we can see the survey plotting as we measure, ensuring problems are identified at source – this is for both internal and external survey work, providing quick and accurate data that can be worked on when we get back to the office, without delay; or even emailed back to the office so that it can be worked on before we have even left site. On a job we carried out in Cornwall for a client, we managed to email the data from site to our office, process the data and email it to our client before the survey team arrived back at our offices!
As our equipment works by firing a laser beam of light we can measure neighbouring structures without having to go onto property under third party control. The Planning Process is ever getting more complicated and Planning Departments are requesting more information which often includes heights and elevations of adjacent buildings (this is known as contextual information). On contentious sites and even non-contentious sites, Planning Departments are conditioning matters such as building heights having to match an adjacent building. It is therefore imperative for Planning Departments as well as both clients and ourselves to know that what we design works and fits the site. We have successfully used this information to prove to Planning Departments that our designs will work and fit in without over-dominating adjacent buildings. Our equipment is invaluable in obtaining this information quickly and accurately.
